| Complete Infrastructure Since the initiation of reform and opening up,
Shantou has formed a three-dimensional modern network of transportation
and communication, including marine, land and aviation, in which seaport
and airport are the center while high-class highways, railways and
modernized telecommunication facilities are the framework. Sea Transportation Shantou harbor, a national first-class port, is among the twenty pivotal ports of China. There are 31 berths of above 5,000 tons, among which there are 13 above 10,000 tons. Its total annual handling capacity reaches 24.7 million tons of cargoes or 580,000 full containers. It maintains cargo network with more than 210 ports of over 40 countries and regions, as well as the main ports of China. Scheduled line of cargo ships between Shantou and Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Thailand has been explored.
