In 1993, Shantou New and High-tech Industry Development Area was established by the approval of the Guangdong People's Government. It covers an area of 5.8km2. It also takes priority of the national preferential policies on S.E.Z. and high-tech industries. Postdoctoral Carving out Garden, Software Garden in High-tech Zone and other high-tech facilities have been established to develop such aspects as e-communication, bioengineering and pharmacy, photoelectricity, new power and new materials.

Shantou Bonded Area

　　Shantou Bonded Area is established in 1993 by the approval of the State Council with an area of 2.34km2. It is the most open area up to the present in China and is one of the economic zones, which has the most favorable policies and the simplest procedures. There are such favorable policies as free movement for commodity, foreign exchange, fund, personnel, etc.
